Are you attending births and would like to enhance your practice around the natural birth of the placenta? Are you a doula, doctor, midwife, student midwife, birthkeeper? If so, this workshop could be for you.

This is a day of shared wisdom, storytelling, mutual trust and learning within a circle held by Nicky Grace, an experienced group facilitator.

Together we will explore the biophysical, emotional, psychological and spiritual aspects of this crucial stage of birth. The baby has been born, but until the placenta is also born, the birth is not complete. We will go on a journey of learning together that has deep meaning but is supremely practical. Nicky will gather what each person needs to learn and aim to address these learning needs, but the overall aim is that by the end of the day you will feel more confident in your practice to support a natural, unmanaged birth of the placenta or third stage of labour.

This is not going to be primarily about managing emergencies, though we will discuss excessive blood loss and what to do about it; what we want is to avoid that emergency arising in the first place. Whether experienced or new to attending births, there is always more we can learn about this crucial stage of labour and birth.

Help your sisters and yourself to remember these precious skills and come along to this workshop to discover all about the blood and glory that is the birth of the placenta, the safe conclusion of the birth, and the beginning of the next stage of relationship of the motherbaby dyad.

Maximum of ten participants. All levels of experience welcome from beginning student midwife or doula to experienced IM.

Lunch will be provided – baked potatoes and salad with houmous and cheese. If you have any allergies, please let me know.

The facilitator of the course is Nicky Grace, an experienced home birth midwife registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. A paper certificate will be provided on the day and an electronic certificate emailed to participants.

Important note: The workshop is held in Nicky’s home. There are two cats in the house – Malkin and Dora. Please don’t book on this workshop if you are allergic to cats!

Purchasing a ticket books your place on the course and no refunds are available. If you are unable to attend on the day, it is fine to sell or give your ticket to someone else – please just let Nicky know by emailing nicky@gracewife.co.uk.

Every effort will be made for the event to go ahead but if insufficient tickets are sold, or if the event has to be cancelled for any other reason such as illness or family emergency, then the cost of your ticket will be refunded in full.

A. Detailed information will be provided after booking, but the workshop is being held at Nicky’s home in Nottingham. There is on-street parking available and excellent public transport links.

A. For this course there are no reductions, but reductions may be available on subsequent courses. Watch this space!

A. As this is about normal, physiological birth this course will not count towards emergencies training.

A. Yes, this workshop does count towards your revalidation and a certificate will be provided. For revalidation purposes, it would be helpful for you to write up a reflection on your learning from the day.
